Understanding Alcoholism

Alcoholism, also known as alcohol use disorder, is a condition in which a person becomes unable to control or stop drinking, even when alcohol is harming their health, family, relationships, work, faith, or future. It is more than simply drinking too much. It can affect the body, the mind, emotions, judgment, and spiritual life.

A person struggling with alcoholism may experience strong cravings, loss of control, increased tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, secrecy, broken promises, shame, isolation, or repeated attempts to stop without lasting success. Alcohol may begin as a way to escape pain, trauma, loneliness, stress, or rejection, but over time it can become a form of bondage.

As a Christian ministry, we do not condemn or shame those who struggle with alcohol. We believe every person has dignity, value, and hope through Jesus Christ. Addiction does not erase a person’s worth, and recovery is possible through faith, honesty, medical care, counseling, accountability, supportive relationships, and a willingness to seek help.

The Bible teaches that God is near to the brokenhearted and offers freedom, restoration, and a new beginning. Recovery is often a journey, not a single moment. Those struggling with alcoholism need compassion, truth, prayer, treatment, and a safe community that will walk beside them.

Anyone who drinks heavily or regularly should seek medical guidance before stopping suddenly, because alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous and may require professional supervision.
